Tenmoku, forgotten beauty

Early in the history of Chinese pottery, Tenmoku glazes were developed. Subtle and abstract, the vessels were crafted with an emphasis on functionality and beautiful forms.

The glaze provided a dark tone to contrast with the piece. Tenmoku tea pottery has endured through the centuries, and is highly prized.

I have attempted to create work that reflects and celebrates the theme of the potters that developed beautiful work in the Tenmoku tradition.
